McConnel recently introduced the new 72-Series and 77-Series ranges to its Power Arm lineup, which farmers, contractors, municipalities, and other users can use to cut hedges, mow roadside verges, and more. Both series feature a new design style, new LED road lighting, and a 70-horsepower (52-kilowatt) hydraulic system that powers seven available reach options.

    About McConnel Power Arms

The Power Arm lineup includes 15 series and hundreds of build options to match myriad reach, horsepower, control system, and other requirements. The 72- and 77-Series provide 5.5- and 6-metre (18- and 19.7-foot) straight arm, 6.5- and 7-m (21.3- and 23-ft) telescopic arm, and 5.5- and 6-m Variable Forward Reach (VFR) arm options. VFR provides enhanced operator visibility and improved manoeuvrability when cutting around obstacles and working in tight spaces.

Buyers will find heavier-duty models within the 77-Series providing added durability and power thanks to larger-diameter pivot pins and an optional 85-HP (63-kW) hydraulic system. McConnel says the larger pivot pins provide a 48% increase in durability and longevity in bush area performance.

Buyers can choose from Motion, Evolution, and Revolution control proportional electronic systems. Combining the Revolution variant with McConnel’s award-winning Easy Drive System enables hands-free verge mowing. All models are compatible with cutter bars, multi-saws, and other attachments, and all employ a heavy-duty mainframe designed for 3-point linkage mounting. Available subframe options include a 4-point hitch and 5-point axle mounting.

    High-Performance Hydraulics

McConnel says the heart of these Power Arms is their high-performance 70-HP gear hydraulic system. The system uses a hydraulic valve block that McConnel designed and manufactures in-house and includes electric rotor control, Soft-Start rotor engagement, and a high-capacity oil cooler. Buyers will also appreciate the system’s restyled 180-litre (47.5-gallon) hydraulic tank.

The tank has a sculpted, impact-resistant polypropylene cover and a new, easy-to-open 2-piece rear guard that’s hinged at one side. The rear guard design makes it easier to access the hydraulic system for maintenance tasks. The top cover reduces material build-up and prevents dust and moisture from entering. Buyers looking to clear roadside debris and enhance cooling can add a debris blower within the rear guard.
