Pöttinger Launches New Twin-Rotor & 4-Rotor Hay Rakes

Pöttinger recently unveiled its new Top VT 6820 S and Top VT 7620 S twin-rotor hay rakes with side swath placement and a larger 4-rotor Top VT 12540 C model designed for maximum swath creation. The 6820 S and 7620 S have 6.8- and 7.6-metre (22.3- and 25-foot) working widths, respectively, while the 12540 C has a 10- to 12.5-m (32.8- to 41-ft) working width.

    Angled Tine Benefits

All three trail-mounted rakes use angled tines, which Pöttinger says lift the crop slightly to sweep it cleanly without dragging it across the ground. The 6820 S and 7620 S use a 5-wheel chassis for each rotor, with the rotors mounted in gimbals. The company says this approach ensures precision guidance over bumpy ground. Customers can equip the 12540 C’s rotor chassis with four or five wheels.

A Multitast jockey comes with the 12540 C as standard and is available as an option with the 6820 S and 7620 S. The jockey wheel detects bumps in the field ahead of the tines so that the rotors lift as needed. Operators can manually adjust the rake height for the VT 6820 S and VT 7620 S using a hand crank or electro-hydraulically from the cab. Rake adjustment for the 12540 C is handled manually with a hand crank, which also adjusts the jockey wheel.

    About Pöttinger’s New Hay Rakes

The 12540 C’s compact, lightweight design makes it well-suited for use on steep ground. The design, which features a travel-friendly 4-m (13.1-ft) transport height with the tine arms intact, contributes to the rake’s outstanding in-field manoeuvrability, helping it move nimbly around trees and other objects. Operators can adjust the rake’s working width hydraulically and set the swath width from 1.2 to 2 m (4 to 6.6 ft).

Customers can also expect excellent manoeuvrability from the 6820 S and 7620 S. Pöttinger says each rake’s steered chassis allows for an 80-degree turning angle so that the rake follows in the tractor’s tracks. Among the rakes’ more noteworthy features is a Basicline preselect system that allows for lifting and lowering the rotor units individually, which is handy for leftover areas and working near field boundaries.
