Case IH marked the European launch of its new and impressive Axial-Flow AF9 and AF10 combines at the recent EIMA international agricultural and gardening machinery exhibition in Bologna, Italy. Redesigned from the ground up, the combines join what Case IH says is the industry’s largest line of single-rotor combines. They promise enhanced fuel efficiency, greater productivity, and reduced operating costs, among other benefits.
Long & Large
At 3.67 metres (12 feet) long, the combines’ new 762-millimetre-diametre (30-inch) AFXL rotor is the industry’s longest, resulting in better crop flow, fuel efficiency, and straw quality, says Case IH. The rotor has six modules vs. the previous models’ four. The machines also equip 40 standard rasp bars, 12 spike rasp bars, and eight HX rasp bars. The threshing and separation area measures up to 5.1 metres2 (55 feet2).
The AF10’s standard 20,000-litre (567-bushel) grain tank capacity also leads the sector, says Case IH, and can unload at speeds up to 210 L (6 bu) per second. The AF9 has a 16,000-L (454-bu) tank capacity and a 159-LPS (4.5 BPS) unloading rate. Buyers can equip the AF9 with up to 15.2-m (50-ft) draper headers and the AF10 with up to 18.6-m (61-ft) draper headers.
Time To Clean
Both combines use a new twin-element Cross-Flow Cleaning Plus system that Case IH says provides the industry’s largest total cleaning area at 8.7 m2 (94 ft2). Chopper options include MagnaCut, an integrated unit for corn/maize, beans, and dry wheat straw that has a spreading capability of up to 13.5 m (44 ft), and MagnaChop, which has an 18-m (59-ft) spreading capacity and is well-suited for working with high straw values and producing a finer chop.
Power & Precision
The AF10 is powered by an FPT Cursor 16 engine rated for 775 horsepower (578 kilowatts). The AF9 has a Cursor 13 power plant rated for 635 HP (474 kW). Case IH lowered engine rpm from 2,100 to 1,900 during harvesting, resulting in improved fuel efficiency. The company also extended service intervals by 150 hours, which should provide some operating cost savings.
Both combines provide several helpful precision technologies, including dual Pro 1200 displays to help manage, monitor, and operate various functions. Operators can enlist the Harvest Command automation system, row-tracking RowGuide Pro technology, and FieldOps. The latter is an all-in-one data management app and web platform that enables remote machine management and simplifies the sharing of operating data as needed.
