Electrolyte Replacement
- Scientifically formulated
- Readily dissolves in water
- Easily absorbed
- Source of energy
Indications: For use as an electrolyte replacement and nutritional supplement in young calves, lambs, kids and foals.
Preparation: Hydra-Lyte readily dissolves in water and is easily absorbed.
Single feed pack - Prepare solution by dissolving the contents of both compartments of this package in two quarts of warm water.
50 Dose Bulk Pack - Prepare solution by dissolving one measure from each package into two quarts of warm water. Add one level measure of the dextrose from the bulk pail to the water and then add one slightly rounded measure of the electrolyte mixture and mix.
Prepare the solution just prior to use and administer with an esophageal probe, nursing bottle or pail.
Feeding Directions: Administer two quarts of Hydra-Lyte solution to each calf or foal twice daily for the first two days. Feed the Hydra-Lyte solution as extra meals while still feeding milk or milk replacer. If the animal refuses milk, feed the Hydra-Lyte solution and resume feeding the milk or milk replacer at the next scheduled feeding. On the third and fourth day administer one quart Hydra-Lyte solution mixed with one quart of either milk or milk replacer to each calf or foal two times each day. Lambs and kids will require about one fourth of the above dosage.
Most treated animals can be returned to normal feeding on the fifth day, but treatment can be continued on the fifth through seventh day.
Note (50 Dose Bulk Pack): The dextrose measure has a maximum capacity of 7 fl. oz. and one level measure supplies approximately 138 g of dextrose. The electrolyte mixture measure is 1 fl. oz. and one slightly rounded measure supplies approximately 25 g of the electrolyte mixture.
Important (50 Dose Bulk Pack): Do not add the electrolyte mix to the dextrose until the Hydra-Lyte solution is to be prepared. If the electrolyte mix is added to the dextrose and stored, the product may become hard, discolored and not easily dissolved.
Note: In cases when extra supplementation is needed or in large neonatal animals, two quarts of Hydra-Lyte solution should be administered to each calf or foal four times per day for the first two days. One fourth the dosage is required for lambs and kids. Use the dosage regimen for the third and fourth days as recommended above.
