    Description
This is the project 1930 John Deere Model E 1.5 HP Hit and Miss engine. Serial # 317479. The story on this one is it was owned by a farmer who had many engines and was known for showing them. The rest of the background on this one it it has a double flywheel s and the exhaust pipe would shoot out flames and sparks at the shows and was a fun attraction to anyone walking by. We see a spark plug up front and a key switch so not really sure how or what this is. Some people have questioned if this is a John Deere E so we have posted a couple pictures of the serial # and then a comparison showing another early brass tag engine to the far right in the comparison photo. You can see that left side plate is the same shape and pattern as this John Deere E but there appears to be some sort of melted or molten steel covering the plate where some John Deere stamping would be though that changed over the years and not as much lettering was on the later side plates as the one on the far right. Also the serial plate and being brass along with the serial # sequence and location is the same exact place as other John Deere E 1.5 HP engines. So judge for yourself. We will post a better picture of the back comparing it to other E engines and the bolt pattern and shape on this one matches them. From Gasoline Engine Magazine: "Some 1 1/2 HP engines were equipped with a spark plug instead of an igniter. These engines were all sparked by a battery and buzz coil." We don't know if this would then be considered one of the rarer spark plug 1 1/2 engine but we took some good pictures as shown. The engine does not have compression but we have not added oil to it or anything. We've never seen a John Deere engine like this with dual flywheels. Price is $1,250 as shown. SHIPPING: One one or two engine in the TN area $120 to $220. And go anywhere else in the U.S. for $250 to $900 range depending on how far you are away from TN. Or feel free to arrange your own freight pick up using a site like uShip. We can load it onto any type trailer or on back of a pickup or an enclosed box truck or trailer.
